Subject:The joys of having an old dog and a young one
Time:03:52 pm
So here's a typical scene walking both dogs down the street.

We'll be going along, Daisy's tale wagging and Abbey doing her little tank walk. Abbey spots a neighbor checkin their mail, at the end of the street and begins barking as feriociously as a cockapoo can. I try to stop her, but its too late and Daisy bursts into a noisy fit of hoarkursts (howling + barking + thrusting body wildly into the air). So my neighbor looks up to see me walking a barking fluff ball and a tazmania devil that howls. Daisy doesn't even know what she's barking at, but she is doing a splendid job of giving it her all.

Another scenario:

sitting at home during the day, working, dogs napping on the bed. Suddenly Abbey hears something (real or imagined, since her hearing is going) and Abbey immedietly starts barking and runs to the front door and lower windows. Daisy follows suit and the whole house is aflush with barking and howling and dogs angry at...NOTHING! Half the time, when Abbey hears a noise, its just me tapping my foot against the desk or dropping a book. But it must sound like someone breaking down the front door with an axe. Very couragous, my dogs.

Stories about mom and dad salmi:

Mom and I were having a discussion about beer.

Me- I had Miller Lite last night.
Mom- Why? Beer is so gross.
Me- I know, but its cheap.
Mom- You know what beer I like? That Bling-Bling. Is that what its called?
Me (laughing hysterically)- No, not at all.

Dad bid on Mulch and Muscles at the Spalding High School auction, which wins him four hours of manual labor from the football team. It cost him a lot of money. So what did he have them do? Move sticks out of the woods. The woods. Into a U-haul that he rented and to the dump (Dad and I did that part). So that's what we did Saturday morning/ early afternoon. Relocated sticks. A lot of sticks.

Me- So we just spent all morning moving sticks out of the woods.
Dad- Yup.
Me- Whew. Now I can sleep soundly at night.

Here's on the month of May is shaping up (hint: busy, busy):

Tomorrow, Friday, Cinco de Mayo- Getting CPR/First Aid Certified 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and then rolling down south to see my friends at Winthrop walk the stage and get their diploma. I'll be in Rock Hill till Monday morning.

Monday- 4 p.m.- Pictures with Kaite, then work.

Tuesday- My berfday. Turning 23. Yay.

Saturday May 13 - Going to DC United game with Tim and maybe Kyle from work. Anyone interested?

May 24- Departure for Jonesville, Tenn and the SUMMER IS OFF. Won't return until mid-August.

In the meantime, I will be working to make as much money as possible to pay for my car repairs, my first two months of rent, Daisy's kennel time while mom and dad vacation, and various other expenses associated with being alive.

Catch me if you can!

And the immigration debate rages on...

Tell me, what does it mean to be American? Is it a matter of being born in a geography? Weren't we all immigrants at one point, legal or illegal? What exactly is a nation for that matter?

I see the news on tv and hear the discussion around work. These people are so angry. We look for every excuse.

Gangs.
Disease.
Freeloaders.

Why not help immigrants already embedded obtain legal status? Anyone who says we should deport them all is a fool. Anyone who claims America is losing its culture is a fool.

Our culture is a blend. And if you really want to be honest, our culture is consumerism. That won't get lost, don't worry.

A friend sent me an email with photos from a school in California where students had hung a Mexican flag above the US flag. Below that was a warning about Americans losing their culture if we don't do anything to fight this. It's disappointing, but why should that define a movement? This debate is bound to raise anger the more heated it gets and only draw deeper lines of division.

I urge everyone to think about this. I know several Latin Americans, mainly my age. All of them are good, honest people who work hard. That's not to say every immigrant is good, but to point out they are just like everyone else; a mixed bag. How would you want to be judged? Why should they be punished? I'm tired of hearing ignorant comments, racial slurs and the like from people I once respected. Where has your compassion gone America?

I support a way to legalize those willing to go through the process. We're already providing medical and education, might as well get something back for it.

My dog...

...never has a bad day.
...is happy to see me.
...doesn't stop wagging her tail.
...wants to play.
...wakes me up at 9 a.m. to play.
...doesn't let me have bad days.
...watches whatever I'm watching.
...likes the same foods I do.
...thinks squirrels are fun to chase, and I'm inclined to agree.
...pees in public.
...takes dumps in the yards of neighbors rude to her.
...can't contain her excitment when meeting new people. Or old friends.
...'s favorite game is battling me.
...doesn't worry.
...'s highlight everyday is simply going outside.
...has her own blanket and chair.
...isn't mad at me when I leave for the weekend.
...barks at the UPS guy.
...licks the bbq sauce off my shoes after work.
...doesn't car if I mis-spell Steve Conyer. =)
...is content with a belly rub.
...is NOT materialistic.
...doesn't believe its rude to jump on people and say hi.
...snores when she sleeps.
...gets her upper lip caught on her teeth and looks dumb.
...smiles when she stretches.
...thinks small dogs are meant to be chased and batted to the ground.
...moves her tail up and down like a pump while she poos. \

Subject:Piece of #$#@ car, I got a piece of #%#@ car!
Time:11:22 am
Well, I have been attempting to save money. However, my car is becoming a bad girlfriend and saying "buy me this, Ooh, I want that!" And when I don't get it, she gets an attitude and fails emissions FOUR times. And decides the window doesn't have to go up anymore.

So, here's the list, starting with the most recent, of upcoming expensives related to my prick BMW:

Driver's side window needs the regulator replaced. I have to go to the parts department at BMW (read that: Break My Wallet) and buy the part and then take it to the glass place to replace the part I have now, which the guy showed me, is bent more to the left than Ted Kennedy (oh snap!). I also have to get new seals on the driver's window side. Don't know how much that will cost, but it sounds very expensive.

Did I mention I've failed emissions four times? Cuz I have. And its because an 800 dollar engine part needs to be replaced, the catalytic converters, which Joe explained to me, burns pollutants. And money apparently.

Senior year at Winthrop, I misstepped getting into my car at Best Buy and came down on the electric seat adjuster. That still needs to be fixed if I ever want to move my seat again. I might develop chronic back pain first though.

Both of my fog lights are broken. And I need an oil change.

But hey, at least I don't drive a jeep!

This is the email I got back from my editor regarding what the probation is all about:

"It's pretty clear that the name is a serious mistake. We're willing to chalk it up to your relative inexperience. But ______ has sent us a position paper that lays out their case. He said he gave that information to you, but I'm not sure in what form. We're doing a story on that viewpoint, using a staff writer who's know ________ for a long time. The decision to put you on a probation for a few weeks shouldn't be a surprise, and it's directly tied to the name. We're appreciative of all the hard work you're doing. But we are going to take a bit more time with your copy and do some fact checking. If there is another name mistake, that I'm afraid will be it. Don't let this get you down, just be very careful."

Son of a bitch man. Just want everyone to know, they are serious about what mistakes are allowed.

Subject:Well, crap, this isn't good
Time:04:30 pm
So, at the end of a conversation about a story I am currently working on, my editor drops the info about how the newspaper is going to run a story covering this guy from Crofton's side of the story that I allegidly mis-represented and that the newspaper is going to be doing some fact checking into some of my old stories, and I am on probation as a freelance reporter.

Wha..?

I'm not worried because I've never had a mistake like this before, but what really disturbs me is that no one from the paper has talked to me about what this guy from Crofton said I missed. I've read and re-read the story as it appeared in the paper, and I don't see any missed facts and it seems like it came out the way I understood it. Now, that doesn't mean I couldn't have made a mistake, but I certainly didn't do it intentionally. So, I'm worried because I have been writing and working hard for the paper since I graduated, trying to just get some good references and work on my abilities. Now, with just over a month and a half until I leave for ASP, suddenly it seems several editors know my name and its not because I've done good work.

Will this effect me in the fall when I go for a job? I dunno, but it doesn't seem fair. I'm going to keep writing and put everything I've got into these next few stories. Anyway, say a prayer for me. It's probably not a big deal, but I am worried that its gonna hurt me in the future.

Subject:sigh...
Time:01:33 am
So, I was having a good night, made okay money at work given how slow it was, went bowling with some friends from work afterward. All was well and good with the world. Got home, Daisy was waiting for me in my room, very happy to see me. Then I check my email. I have an email from my editor at work. Apparently, in a story I covered last week about a little league team not being allowed to play because of rules and so on, I misspelled the name of one of the community leaders in Crofton. Allow me to prefence this by saying stories of these nature do not seem, and are not, important news pieces. But people take their communities very serious and it can quickly get down to ugly hair splitting. In a story that was supposed to run 500 words, this guy, whose name I misspelled, gave me 7 different people to interview to get his side of the story. That's ridiculous!

Anyway, my editor is really hard and I am going to get nailed to the wall for this one. Which sucks, cuz I'm trying to make a good impression and this guy is raising a big stink over the story. And it was run by another editor, so at least three different editors at the paper know that I screwed up. So that has me really bummed right now. And then I read Jessie's post about how the world is going to hell. sigh...
